This is the famous picture that was in all the newspapers. The photographer was staying about 3 rooms down, heard the commotion and went out to see what was going on.

 The motel was going to be torn down but like the Alamo, somebody decided it was worth saving, so they did and turned it into the Civil Rights Museum.
